Pat Murphy

Head of Environment Knowledge Transfer, Teagasc

Pat Murphy is Head of Environment Knowledge Transfer at Teagasc, Johnstown Castle. He is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Teagasc Environment Advisory Programme. The focus of the programme is to improve the environmental sustainability of Irish agriculture, particularly focussing on water quality, GHG emission, biodiversity and soil fertility and soil quality. Over the last 9 months he has working with industry and government partners to establish the Agricultural Sustainability Support and Advisory Programme (ASSAP) whose initial focus will be on supporting farmers to achieve improvements in water quality in at risk cartchments. He has led the development of decision support systems including the Carbon Navigator and NMP Online. Pat graduated from UCD in 1984 with a B.Agr.Sc (Econ) and M.Agr.Sc in 1986. In 2009 he completed an M.Sc. in Economic Policy Studies in Trinity College. He has worked with Teagasc for over 30 years in a variety of roles including farm management specialist, software development manager, business planning and corporate governance officer and as Assistant Director of Advisory Services.
